Most of the hard decisions poker players have to make come after the flop, it is easy enough to learn what a good hand is before the flop but after the flop there's so many factors and variables to consider that make those hard decisions. So here we have listed some examples of dangerous flops.
- You hold KK and the flop comes down Q,8,8 a paired board looks like a green light to bet however if you encounter any kind of resistance in this situation then you should handle your decision very carefully. Calling would be a safer option rather than re-raising in that situation.
- You hold AA and the flop comes Q,10,9 then caution is strongly advised as your opponent could easily dominate you with hands like JK, Q10 or pocket 99. If there are multiple players in the hand then you should probably raise to narrow down the field but if you come across any type of resistance or the turn brings out any 8,9,10,J,Q,K then you should proceed with the highest amount of caution. At the point of the flop your pocket aces are only around a two to one favourite to win over QJ leaving plenty of cards for your opponent to hit to win the pot
- You hold Jack's and the flop comes down 8h6h2h then your over-pair doesn't look that strong with one more heart coming out on the turn or river and then your great starting hand has turned into a trash hand. Try raising on the flop but just like before if you encounter any resistance or the fourth heart comes out on the turn or river then proceed with extreme caution as domination is almost certain in that situation.
These are just a few examples of dangerous situations in poker that may occur on the flop and being prepared to deal with this situation can make the difference between winning and losing when playing poker.
